The Ryan family was way laid by armed robbers on the way back from Church at St. Limas in Mayslick. They were rescued by farm hands from the Longnecker farm and the Fritz brothers (Oscar, Earl, and Torrence.) Later three of the Ryan girls married the Fritz brothers, and Patrick married their sister Patricia "Minnie" Fritz. Ann Marguerite Ryan never married, saying she couldn't because there weren't enough Fritz brothers.
